Article 1. Introduction to MASA . application
MASA technology solution to help disperse the RT-PCR sampling process in large-scale COVID-19 screening, developed by a team of experts from:
Center for Science and Biotechnology, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City
Military Medical Research Institute, Military Medical Academy
GaraSTEM Education Technology Joint Stock Company and HL Solutions software company.
The MASA solution comes with a proposal for people to take a nasopharyngeal sample or combine it with a saliva sample at home, at work or at the prescribed sampling point. In some cases, epidemic prevention staff can collect samples or assist in taking samples.
Organizing and guiding people and businesses to take samples by themselves will help reduce the load on medical staff at epidemic centers, where priority should be given to treatment and saving lives of patients with severe symptoms. . At the same time, this solution will avoid the gathering of many people, reducing the risk of cross-contamination in the community today.
The solution uses a sample tube with a volume of 2 ml (containing 0.6 ml of patient sample), much more compact than the current sample container (falcon 15 ml, containing 3 ml of patient sample). As a result, this solution helps to reduce plastic waste, save sample container costs/sample storage environment, and reduce the amount of medical waste that needs to be handled many times. In addition, reducing the volume of the sample storage environment helps to increase the virus concentration in the patient sample, which increases the sensitivity of the COVID-19 screening PCR test, minimizing the miss of F0 in the community.
The solution that simultaneously uses a saliva sampler has been filed for a patent by a member of the group at the National Office of Intellectual Property. This invention allows persons who have difficulty in obtaining samples of nasopharyngeal fluid (malformation, child, psychopathology, etc.) Sampling saliva after snorting helps to simultaneously collect fluid from the nose, nasopharynx, pharynx and saliva, thereby increasing accuracy. The saliva sample has been approved by the US FDA for the COVID-19 screening test since August 2020. The ability to detect SARS-CoV-2 in saliva samples of the test kit that the team developed and used in the solution (AmphaBio HT-HiThroughput PCR COVID-19, licensed by the Ministry of Health May 7, 2021) successfully evaluated on blind samples submitted from the USA (Xprize Rapid Covid Testing Award Semifinals: https://www.xprize.org/prizes/covidtesting); and saliva samples collected at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Bac Giang epidemic center.
The solution includes an application on the phone that allows users to register a request to be tested, record the GPS location of the person being tested, update the transport status – analyze the test of the patient sample. products, view test results and manage your results and test history. The application has a feature of displaying a map of positive samples, helping users to know if they have detected positive cases around them. The application uses the camera to scan the Barcode or QR code of the patient sample with the phone and put it directly into the program to transfer to the system quickly and most conveniently.
This solution proposes to manage sample codes by Barcode and QR code to help testing units or management centers easily retrieve sample information and return results. The solution suite provides Lab tools that can manage data online from the time of sample order so that the Laboratory can proactively plan deployment.
MASA solution helps to return results from laboratories quickly to users. From there, it helps the authorities to validate the user’s results for the activities.
MASA also has the feature of displaying a map of positive samples, helping users to know if they have detected positive cases around them. The solution allows users to save other information related to their declaration on the system (for example, declare domestic movement (https://suckhoe.dancuquocgia.gov.vn/#/), declare declaration of domestic movement (https://suckhoe.dancuquocgia.gov.vn/#/), medical reports, …) to help synchronize data with authorities.
MASA does not use or access other information on users’ mobile phones such as contacts, photos, etc.
To perform nasopharyngeal and/or salivary sampling at home, at work or at the prescribed sampling point, users need to first download and install the MASA application.
